I teach all classes
listed on these pages at the Institute of Mosaic Art in Oakland,
California. I have been on the faculty there for 8 years teaching courses
ranging from beginning mosaic classes to more advanced techniques.
Institute of Mosaic Art ( IMA) is a unique mosaic resource and education
center in the Bay Area and one of the only formal mosaic schools in the
United States. Founded in 2005, IMA offers a wide range of mosaic classes
and workshops, has rotating mosaic exhibits, a resource library, an on
site retail supply store and an outdoor sculpture garden. It is truly an
inspiring place to visit and attend classes. If you are fond of
mosaics this is a must see kind of place!

light, both from the inside and out.
Instructor will demonstrate uses of clear adhesives on both
horizontal and vertical surfaces, talk and lecture on glass-on-glass mosaic
techniques, including setting and grouting.
These lamps make beautiful, hand made gifts.
Students will receive one on one instruction in the use of

Mosaics From Around
The Globe
|
Dates: 1 session class |
Class
Description |
|

|
2008
Feb 2 |
This is a one day journey of exploration through the use of
direct application, non-grouted mosaics using exotic materials from around the
globe. Materials include: Venetian Millefiori, Italian and Mexican Smalti, Van
Gogh and Tapestry glass, Vitreous Glass from Chine and Italy and more...
Class will cover a brief history of millefiori, smalti and
other materials and their variations and uses. Students will be using a
traditional setting method to embed tesserae into an adhesive layer originally
used for smalti. This mean no grouting!
Students will explore design solutions and various modes of
direct setting with mixed media glass materials, using materials in surprising
combinations. Students will experiment with using complimentary materials and colors
and the instructor will demonstrate a variety of cutting techniques and methods
as well as ways of setting tesserae to get different effects.
Students will bring home a completed millefiori multimedia
mirror. Perfect for gift giving!
